ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS:

Our curriculum for Reading is called Into Reading. There are a total of 12 units. Each unit has one main topic and students read different stories each week about a similar topic or question. Into Reading is also broken down further to focus on all the necessary components of reading. The spelling, phonics, vocabulary and reading comprehension strategies correlate with the story of the week. In addition, we teach conventions of the English language, and various types of writing.

MATH:

This year we have a new math curriculum! We are using iReady! Below are all the topics we will be hitting this year!

Unit 1: Numbers Within 20: Addition, Subtraction, and Data 

Unit 2: Numbers Within 100: Addition, Subtraction, Time, and Money 

Unit 3: Numbers Within 1,000: Place Value, Addition, and Subtraction 

Unit 4: Length: Measurement, Addition and Subtraction, and Line Plots 

Unit 5: Shapes and Arrays: Partitioning and Tiling Shapes, Arrays, Evens and Odds 

At Home Tips

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES:

This year we will be learning and exploring many different topics in science and social studies. We will cover areas like life cycles, weather, animals, sun and moon in our science curriculum. In social studies we will learn more about countries, culture, our community, the Civil Rights Movement and historical figures. This year our science and social studies topics align with our reading curriculum for a deeper understanding of the topics.
