Welcome to 5th Grade ELA! This year, DVUSD adopted a new curriculum for grades K-5. It’s called Amplify CKLA, and it has some pretty great reviews and results from around the country. Let’s see how high we can drive our 5th Grade success!
There are 9 units we will be touching on this year. Each lesson will include Reading, Writing, Grammar, Morphology (Word study), and Spelling activities. They even threw in some cursive review, which I adore. Sometimes it’s nice to get back to good old workbook activities to drive home a good practice routine. There will be a unit assessment, which will help me guide reviews and enrichment throughout the year. It’s a great program to get the students invested in some topics they may have an interest in or a new topic they may really want to explore and learn more about.
There are workbooks that students will be working in for most units. Some books for reading passages stay in the class, and some will be sent home. There is a cursive review workbook that will supplement our lessons as well.
The expectations are high for this 5th Grade group. All of the teachers have very high standards that we will hold all year. There will be lots of support offered when needed, but we hope to see your child really excel and grow this year in their independent learning and their responsibility level. Watch them grow!
